The two rolls
- Large catering cling film roll: 45 cm wide x 300 m long, clear PVC film, sold as a single roll on a cardboard core.
- Small catering cling film roll: 30 cm wide x 300 m long, clear PVC film, sold as a single roll on a cardboard core.
Both rolls hold the same 300 metres of film. Only the width is different, so the small roll is not a shorter roll.
When the 45 cm roll is the better choice
The extra width covers baking trays, gastronorm pans and large mixing bowls in one pull, where a 30 cm roll can leave gaps. It suits commercial kitchens, school kitchens, caterers, delis and bakeries that prepare food in large trays and store it in the fridge.
When the 30 cm roll is the better choice
The 30 cm width is easy to handle and suits bowls, plates, sandwiches and smaller containers. It is the everyday roll for cafes, sandwich bars, delis, school kitchens and staff kitchens. If most of what you wrap is sandwiches, rolls and portion bowls, the narrower film is the easier one to handle.
Do you need both?
Many kitchens keep one of each: the wide roll by the prep bench for trays and pans, and the narrow roll at the sandwich counter. If you are unsure, order one roll of each and see which one your team reaches for.
