Kraft Food Boxes: No5, No8 and No2 Sizes Compared
Kraft food boxes are the everyday takeaway box for curries, noodles, salads and platters. They have a fold-over lid built into the box, so there is nothing separate to order or store. We sell three sizes plus a burger box, and the right one depends on the meal. This guide compares them using the measurements on our product pages.
The three food boxes
- No5 Small: 900ml, 15 x 12 x 5 cm. Sides, fries, salads, breakfasts, pasta and lighter meals. Case of 300.
- No8 Medium: 1400ml (49 oz), 15.3 x 14.3 x 6.5 cm. Curry and rice, pasta, noodles, stir-fries, fish and chips and salads. Case of 300.
- No2 Large: 1500ml, 19.5 x 14 x 5 cm. A long, low box for mixed grills, kebab and rice, wraps, sandwiches cut in half and sharing portions. Case of 200.
How they are made
Each box is a single piece of natural brown kraft paperboard with folded corners. The lid folds over and closes with interlocking tabs. Closed boxes are flat on top, so they stack in a takeaway bag, on the counter or in a chiller. The boxes are plain, not printed, and take hot and cold food.
Deep or long?
The No8 is the deepest at 6.5 cm and the nearest to a square, so it holds a saucy main such as curry and rice well. The No2 is 19.5 cm long but only 5 cm deep, which suits food laid out flat, such as a mixed grill, wraps or halved sandwiches. The No5 is the smallest and the usual choice for a side order or a lighter lunch.
The extra large burger box
For burgers, the extra large kraft burger box is a one-piece clamshell measuring 12 x 12 x 7 cm, with room for double and loaded burgers and a front tab to close it. The case holds 500 boxes. It is plain brown kraft with a matte finish, so you can add your own sticker or stamp. For more burger packaging, see the burger packaging guide.
Which size should I order first?
Most takeaways start with the No8 for mains and the No5 for sides, and add the No2 if they sell platters or grills. Order one case of each size and test them with real portions before a bigger order. Our bagasse or kraft boxes guide explains how kraft compares with the bagasse range, and the guide to choosing takeaway food boxes covers the whole menu. Browse the full kraft food boxes range.
