Sauce Pots: 1oz, 2oz or 4oz, and Hinged or Separate Lid?
Dips and sauces go out with almost every takeaway order, and the pot you pick affects portion size, speed at the counter and how much you spend on lids. We stock four clear sauce pots. This guide explains what each one holds and which suits which job.
The four pots at a glance
- 1oz hinged: holds 1 oz (30 ml), case of 1000. See the 1oz hinged sauce pot.
- 2oz hinged: holds 2 oz (60 ml), case of 1000. See the 2oz hinged sauce pot.
- 4oz hinged: holds 4 oz (120 ml), case of 500. See the 4oz hinged sauce pot.
- 2oz heavy duty with separate lid: holds 2 oz (60 ml), case of 800. See the 2oz heavy duty pot with separate lid.
All four are round and clear, so staff and customers can see which sauce is inside. You can see them together in our sauce pots range.
Hinged pots: the lid is attached
On the hinged pots the lid is moulded on to the pot. You fill the pot, fold the lid over and press it shut. A small tab on the lid edge makes it easy for the customer to open. Because every pot already has its lid, there is nothing to match up at the counter and no lids to lose, and closed pots stack neatly in the fridge and on the pass.
The separate lid pot: for batch filling
The 2oz heavy duty pot comes with a separate flat lid that presses on around the rim. This suits a kitchen that fills dips in batches before service and lids them as orders go out. The pot is made from heavy duty clear plastic, so it feels firm in the hand, and lidded pots sit level, which helps them stack in the fridge.
Which size for which sauce?
- 1oz: a single portion of ketchup, mayo, sweet chilli or garlic dip, and tasting samples in a cafe or deli.
- 2oz: the everyday size. Enough garlic mayo for a pizza, ketchup for a portion of chips or dressing for a salad box.
- 4oz: a proper side portion: coleslaw, salsa, hummus, raita, a large dip for sharing or extra dressing for a family order.
If you sell several dips with one meal, the 1oz pot keeps each portion small, while a pizza or kebab shop often goes straight to the 2oz.
Hinged or separate lid?
Choose hinged if you fill pots to order at the counter and want the simplest, quickest option. Choose the separate lid pot if you prepare sauces ahead and want a firmer pot. The separate lid pot is sold as one case of 800 with its lids, so there is no second product to order.
What goes with sauce pots
Sauce usually travels with chips, burgers or pizza. Pair the pots with a kraft food box or a paper carrier bag, and add serviettes and wooden cutlery to the same order. Our guide to cutlery, serviettes and sauce pots covers the other small items.
