What does a typical restaurant order?
A restaurant uses disposables in three places: takeaway and delivery, the kitchen, and the front of house. Food that travels needs boxes that hold their heat and do not leak; the kitchen needs wraps, gloves and cleaning supplies; and the tables need serviettes and cutlery. Here is how the order usually breaks down.
Takeaway and delivery
Delivery packaging has to survive a journey. Choose containers with secure lids, and add a bag to carry them.
- Bagasse boxes: plant-fibre boxes for hot food that can go in a microwave
- Microwave containers: heavy-duty containers with lids for reheating
- Foil containers & lids: aluminium trays and lids for curries, rice and oven-baked dishes
- Deli bowls & lids: for soups, noodles and salads
- Sauce pots: for sauces and dips, in several sizes
- Paper carrier bags: to carry the order
Front of house
- Serviettes & hand towels: for the table and the washrooms
- Cutlery: for takeaway orders
- Wet wipes: individually wrapped wipes to hand out with messy food
- Till rolls: for the till and the card machine
Kitchen
- Gloves: nitrile gloves for food preparation
- Foil rolls: for cooking and covering
- Cling film & parchment: for storing and lining
- Wrapping & grease paper: for wrapping and lining trays
- Blue rolls: for wiping and cleaning
- Bin bags: heavy-duty bags for kitchen waste
