What the bag is
The 12 inch foil lined bag is a white paper bag with an aluminium foil lining. It is 30.5 cm (12 inch) long, has a serrated top edge and side gussets that open out for bulky food. The outside is plain white, which looks tidy in a customer's hand and leaves room for your own sticker or stamp. The bags are supplied flat, so a case of 500 takes little room under the counter.
What the foil lining does
The foil sits against the food. It helps hold the heat in, so the food cools more slowly on the way to the customer, and it helps keep grease from soaking through the paper. Fold the top over once or twice after filling to keep more of the heat in. For longer delivery runs, carry the bags in an insulated delivery bag as well.
What fits
At 30.5 cm long, the bag takes a full doner or shish kebab, a large wrap, a naan bread, a panini or a portion of fried chicken. It is also used for hot sandwiches and garlic bread. For a smaller item, such as a single burger or a small portion of chips, a greaseproof paper bag is a better size.
Bag or box?
A bag is quick to fill, cheap to store and easy to carry, which suits a kebab, a wrap or a naan that is eaten soon after it is served. A box is the better choice for food that is loose, saucy or stacked, such as loaded chips or a portion of rice. Many hot food shops use both: the foil bag for the main item and a box or container for the sides.
